Hiring a mosquito service in LA County
What it costs, what licenses to check, and the questions that separate a good company from a spray-and-go one.
What it costs
| Service | Typical price | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| One-time treatment | $100–$300 | A party, wedding or backyard event |
| Barrier spray visit | $70–$150 | Price per visit inside a plan |
| Seasonal plan | $400–$1,000 | Visits every three to four weeks through the season |
National ranges from published 2026 cost guides. Yard size, slope, and how much vegetation there is change the price.
Check the license first
In California, anyone treating your yard for mosquitoes for pay needs a state license. Mosquito control in and around a home typically falls under a Structural Pest Control Board Branch 2 license; companies working in the landscape may hold a Department of Pesticide Regulation pest control business license instead. Either way, ask for the number and look it up before anyone sprays.
Questions to ask
- Will you inspect and remove breeding sources, or only spray? Good companies do both.
- What product will you use, and how long should kids and pets stay off treated areas?
- How do you protect bees and other pollinators? (Avoid spraying blooming plants.)
- How often will you come, and what happens if mosquitoes come back between visits?
- Is the plan month to month, or am I signing for the whole season?
Red flags
- No license number, or reluctance to give one.
- Promises to eliminate every mosquito. Treatment reduces them; nobody gets to zero.
- Pressure to sign a multi-year contract on the first visit.
- No mention of standing water. Spraying without removing sources doesn't last.
Don't skip the free option
Your public vector control district inspects properties at no charge and can often find the source you missed. Many people need both: the district to find the problem, and a company to keep the yard treated through summer.
